Philip is a fourty-five year old man that had been living on Chino streets since 2014, struggling with substance abuse. His sister in Montana was willing to help, but he needed help getting there.
Dustin Brooks came to the Chino Police Department seeking resources for a 90-day residential substance abuse program. Dustin informed the Chino Quality of Life Team that he had been battling homelessness in Chino/Pomona for 14 years.
He also was struggling with substance dependency while navigating life on the streets. The City of Chino Homeless Outreach Coordinator connected Dustin to an Inpatient Rehabilitation Center, called American Recovery Center, located in Pomona. After 90 Days, Dustin successfully completed his inpatient residential program at American Recovery Center.
Dustin is currently living at the ARCH sober home located in Pomona. The program will offer six-months of free housing. After the six months, Dustin will have to contribute 40-percent of his income towards rent. The Homeless Outreach coordinator connected Dustin to American Job center located in Pomona where Dustin will receive support in locating employment. Dustin’s long-term goal is to obtain permanent housing so his mother and sister can come to live with him.
Anna and Bertha decided to move from North Carolina to California because they believed a housing voucher had been approved for them in the Fresno area. They flew into Ontario airport to find out the voucher was still in progress.
The voucher had no set time frame for final approval; therefore, Anna and Bertha were now homeless. They found themselves in Chino, splitting time between motel rooms and the Courtyard Area of Isaiah's Rock, a local non-profit.
The Chino Quality of Life team made contact with Anna and Bertha after learning that they had been staying at Isaiah's Rock for a week. The Quality -of Life Team worked closely with a variety of public service providers to assist Anna and Bertha with obtaining housing. Anna and Bertha are now happily housed in a shared home in San Jacinto and are now longer homeless.
Paul was struggling with an addiction to Meth and was living on the streets of Chino. While homeless, he was approached by the City of Chino Homeless Outreach Coordinator to see if he would like to receive assistance.
Paul initially refused any assistance and continued his lifestyle of substance abuse and living on the streets. Chino’s Homeless Outreach Coordinator did not give up on Paul, and regularly checked in on him to see if he was interested in receiving assistance.
It was because of the Homeless Outreach Coordinator’s persistence that Paul decided that his current lifestyle was not sustainable. The City of Chino helped connect Paul with a sober living environment in Pomona. Paul has been able to remain sober and enjoys his new housing environment. He is now looking for employment and is no longer homeless.
