  • Coyote sightings are not uncommon in Chino, especially with their natural role in our ecosystem. While they are generally not aggressive, it’s important to stay alert and follow these safety tips:

    • Do not feed wildlife or leave pet food or birdseed outdoors.
    • Keep yards clear of overgrown brush and woodpiles.
    • Use deterrents like outdoor lighting, radios, or motion-activated noise.
    • Leash your pets, especially at dawn, dusk, and night.

If you see a coyote, don’t run. Instead, make loud noises, wave your arms, throw small objects like pebbles, or spray water to scare it away. Back away slowly while keeping the coyote in view.

For more information or to report unusual coyote behavior, please contact the Animal Resource Center of the Inland Empire (ARC) at arcinlandempire.org or call (909) 321-1080.
