Chino Names Interim City Manager

CHINO, CA  – On March 10, the Chino City Council met in closed session to discuss filling the position being vacated by City Manager Matt Ballantyne on April 18.

When the City Council reconvened from Closed Session, City Attorney Fred Galante reported out that City Council held a discussion and voted 5-0 to appoint Anthony Arroyo, Director of Human Resources/Risk Management, to act as Interim City Manager.  Arroyo will be taking on the duties of City Manager on an interim basis while continuing his current duties. Per City Council direction, details of the term of the appointment are to be finalized by the City Attorney. The formal appointment would apply following the April 18 effective date of Ballantyne’s departure.

Arroyo, who is currently the Director of Human Resources & Risk Management, brings over 20 years of public sector experience to the position of Interim City Manager. He has served with the City of Chino since 2015. “I am truly humbled and honored to be chosen by the City Council to be the interim City Manager.  I look forward to working with the Mayor, City Council, and staff in continuing to move this wonderful organization forward and to not lose the momentum that Matt Ballantyne has set in place,” said Arroyo.

An Ad Hoc Subcommittee of the City Council comprising of Mayor Eunice Ulloa and Mayor Pro Tem Marc Lucio to coordinate the process for recruitment of the permanent city manager was established.

According to Mayor Ulloa, “Anthony is dedicated to Chino and knows the strategic priorities and goals that the City Council has set in place. He will work with Council and lead our Executive Management Team and staff through this transition to ensure that we don’t skip a beat in completing important programs and projects that are underway.”
