The Business of the Month for January 2023 started as many do – with a good idea and lots of hard work. Our awardees found an old fast-food building on Riverside Drive between Central and 7th Street in downtown Chino and transformed this unassuming spot into a local destination.
In 1997, the Avila brothers opened Riverside Bar & Grill, a family restaurant known for its fresh, unique, and delicious food served in a friendly and comfortable atmosphere. With menu influences from gastropubs and the owners’ Mexican heritage, the Grill caters to a wide range of tastes. This Chino landmark has a loyal customer base that the owners consider part of their extended family, and they take pride in treating their customers like guests in their own home.
In addition to serving great food, Riverside Grill is known for its generous and community-focused contributions. It supports a variety of charities and non-profits, including Soroptimist International of the Chino Valley Inc. and programs such as "Stepping up”, which supports girls during their promotion from 6th to 7th grade, and the "Brew & Chew" event that funds scholarships to Chino high schools and the Chaffey Community College Chino Campus.
Riverside Grill also assists the Pomona Pride Center, which serves the LGBTQ+ youth in twelve cities; the Gavin R. Steven’s Foundation (also known as Gavin’s Groupies), which raises awareness and provides funding to treat and cure blindness; and the Ayala Girls Booster Club.
When available, Riverside Grill purchases locally sourced products, such as hand-crafted beers, nopales, breads, bagels, tortillas, produce and gardening services. Riverside Grill prides itself in supporting the arts and advertises with the Chino 7th Street Theater's yearly program.
