On July 3, 2019 at approximately 3:50 p.m., the Chino Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team served a search warrant in the 6800 block of Rockrose Street.  As officers made entry into the residence and began the process of clearing it, a suspect was discovered and an officer involved shooting occurred.  No weapon was found inside the residence.  The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.  No officers or other members of the public were injured.

The suspect who was shot is a 49-year-old resident of Fontana.  Due to the nature of his injuries his name is being withheld until next of kin can be notified.  A second suspect, Ai Yue Cai, a 53-year-old resident of Fontana was arrested for the cultivation of marijuana and grand theft of electricity.

The officer involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave per department policy.  The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is conducting the investigation.

Investigators served a second search warrant at the suspects’ residence in Fontana.  A total of approximately 16.5 pounds of processed marijuana, 1500 marijuana plants, $35,000 in cash, and evidence of identity theft were located at the two residences following the warrant searches.  A criminal investigation continues into the illegal cultivation.
