 Homicide – 13200 block 17th StreetOn December 15, 2019, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Chino Police responded to a call for service in the 13300 block of Oaks Avenue regarding a fight. As officers arrived, they encountered a large crowd from a nearby party and two victims of battery, who sustained minor injuries.  

Per witnesses, another possible victim involved in the fight was missing.  Officers began searching the area and located the victim in the 13200 block of 17th Street in the rear yard of a residence.  The victim, later identified as 30-year-old Joe Steven Melgoza, suffered blunt force trauma to his head.  Officers began life-saving efforts, and Melgoza was transported to Chino Valley Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.  

The Chino Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Bureau identified the suspects as 28-year-old Rony Aristides Castaneda Ramirez and his 19-year-old brother Josue Daniel Castaneda Ramirez, both of Chino. 

At approximately 1:56 pm, Detectives served a search warrant at the suspect’s residence in the 5800 block of Chino Avenue, where both suspects were located and arrested without incident.  Detectives continue to actively investigate this homicide, and there is no further information available at this time.
