Project Schedule/Milestones

February 2023 – The full road closure of Merrill Avenue from Euclid Avenue to Stearman Drive commenced on Friday, February 10th for the purposes of installing a major storm drain facility at the Euclid Avenue street intersection. The contractor also completed temporary signal modifications during the month. However, recent rain events postponed additional construction activities until April 2023.

April 2023 through June 2023 – The contractor is scheduled to install the storm drain across Merrill Avenue to approximately 600 feet south of the Euclid Avenue street intersection.

July 2023 – The contractor continued to construct the storm drain at the intersection of Merrill Avenue and Euclid Avenue. The storm drain installation is scheduled to be completed by early August.

August 2023 - The contractor is scheduled to repave and stripe the intersection by mid-August.

September 2023 - Merrill Avenue is now open in both directions after ongoing construction efforts by the City of Ontario and the Ontario Ranch Development. While there’s still work ahead, the progress achieved so far is a positive step towards enhancing the area’s infrastructure and traffic flow.

Project Updates

Recent rain events have impacted the end date.

Construction Continues: The construction efforts are moving forward as planned, with the current focus being on the north side of Merrill Avenue. In the current phase, construction has shifted the roadway to the south side of Merrill. To ensure minimal disruption to traffic, a single lane in each direction will remain open on Merrill Avenue, spanning from Euclid Avenue to Archibald Avenue. Drive with caution and be aware of traffic control measures in the area.

Grove Ave Closure: Grove Avenue will remain closed (Eucalyptus Avenue to Merrill Avenue) for an extended duration. Please consider alternative routes via Sultana, Bon View Avenue and Carpenter Avenue.

All-Way Stops: Temporary all-way stops are at intersections on Merrill Avenue at Sultana Avenue, Bon View Avenue and Hellman Avenue. New traffic signals are in the works to enhance safety and traffic management.

Upcoming Closures: Short-term lane and roadway closures along Merrill Avenue are expected. No future long-term closures are planned.

Technical Details

Construction activities along Merrill Avenue from Euclid Avenue to Grove Avenue will continue through 2023. However, construction activities after the reopening of Merrill Avenue are anticipated to only require intermittent lane closures rather than a full road closure.
