ADA Transition Plan

Background

The Americans Disabilities Act requires state and local governments to ensure access to civic life for all individuals, not only regarding physical accessibility, but also in the delivery of government programs, services, activities, and employment.

The law requires public entities to conduct a self evaluation of all programs, services and facilities to establish an ADA transition plan addressing structural or programmatic barriers.

The City developed an initial transition plan subsequent to the passage of the ADA, as well as completed a more comprehensive survey of City-owned public buildings and parks in 2017.

In order to meet the statutory requirements, the City released a Request for Proposals (RFP) and selected Bureau Veritas Technical Assessments as the consultant to provide a comprehensive Citywide evaluation of accessibility compliance for City parks and buildings, public right-of-way facilities, City policies and practices, and an updated ADA transition plan.
