State Legislative Priorities
The City of Chino tracks consequential state legislative bills in accordance with the Citywide Legislative Policy. With the assistance of the League of California Cities and the City’s contract state lobbying firm, Gonsalves & Son, the City's position on key bills are communicated to Chino's State Senate and State Assembly representatives. Additionally, while the City generally engages in state legislative issues, the City may also submit its formal support or opposition on other matters occurring independent of the California State Legislature (e.g., proposed ballot initiatives).

Ballot Initiatives
The City Council adopted Resolution No. 2022-012, expressing the City of Chino's support for the "Brand-HuangMendoza Tripartisan Land Use Initiative." The Initiative intends to amend Article XI of the California Constitution to place certain land use decisions under the City’s purview as opposed to the state. Moreover, the Initiative clarifies existing laws that cities must follow by delineating those matters that are of a statewide concern. The Initiative intends to provide more precedence to city general plans and local voter approved initiatives (e.g., Measure M). To appear as a proposition ballot measure for the November 1, 2022 statewide election, the Initiative must obtain 997,139 signatures by May 2, 2022.
