Relocation of the Russ Miller Memorial
Preparations are underway to relocate the Russ Miller Memorial, currently displayed in the Civic Center plaza, to the new Chino Police Department facility on Walnut Avenue.
The memorial, which was originally dedicated in May of 2003, serves as a reminder of veteran, fallen Officer Russ Miller. The dedication plaque, which accompanies the commemorative piece, bears the inscription, “This memorial is dedicated to the Chino Police Department and commemorates Police Officer Russell M Miller, who served the citizens of this community with dignity and respect for over 12 years and died in the line of duty on February 1, 2000.”
R.I.C. Construction, the contractor for the new Police Department facility, will begin the relocation process next Monday, May 7. In addition to the removal of the two bronze statues, the granite slabs that complete the memorial will also be removed, trimmed, and polished before being installed at the new location. Once complete, the memorial will be prominently located outside the main entrance of the new facility.
The work to remove the memorial is scheduled to take approximately two weeks and a security fence will be installed around the area, providing a safe-zone for pedestrians while allowing full access to all of the Civic Center facilities.
