Woman Shot in Chino, Suspect in Custody
A woman was visiting family members in Chino last night when her husband arrived at the residence located in the 12500 block of Arlington Lane and shot her; she later died as a result of her injuries.
Officers of the Chino Police Department received a call of shots fired and responded to the residence. Upon arrival, both the suspect and the victim were gone. Officers put out a description of both the suspect and the victim and shortly afterwards, Chino Officers were notified by the Ontario Police Department that they had located a woman matching the victim’s description in the 300 block of Elm Street in Ontario. The victim was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.
At approximately 10:30 p.m., the San Bernardino County Sheriffs Office located the alleged suspect, Bobby Joe Winters, 74, near his residence in San Bernardino County. When Deputies approached the suspect, he shot himself and was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition. Winters is being charged with homicide, domestic violence, and kidnapping.
Although still early in the investigation, Chino Officers have determined that the alleged suspect kidnapped the victim after the initial shots were fired in Chino and left her in Ontario after shooting her a third time. The San Bernardino Coroner’s Office will release the name of the victim and determine where the homicide occurred.
The Chino Police Department, Ontario Police Department, and the San Bernardino County Sheriffs Office are continuing to work together on this incident. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Chino Police Department at 909-628-1234.
