SHARPS

Needles/Syringes and Lancets

City of Chino SHARPS by Mail Program

Thousands of needles are dangerously thrown into the trash every day. Disposing of needles/syringes and lancets pose a serious health risk to sanitation workers, children, neighbors, pets and the community. Used needles and lancets are dangerous because they can injure people and spread diseases such as HIV/AIDS and hepatitis. In response to the potential hazard, the City of Chino and Waste Management have implemented a convenient SHARPS mail back disposal program.

The City of Chino's SHARPS Disposal by Mail System Kits, offered in alliance with SHARPS Compliance, Inc. include:

Specifically designed SHARPS container
Pre-paid shipping box
Instructions for use
This program is easyand convienient. Once the SHARPS container is full, it is bagged, placed inside the original packing and mailed.

To participate in our program, residents will need to show residency through either a utility bill or state issued identification. Currently, the only participating pharmacy is Aid Rite Aid, located at 12059 Central Avenue, Chino.

Chino residents will be entitled to three (3) kits per year. The first container is free, the next two have a $5 co-pay; the partnership pays the remainder of the costs.

Contact the Public Works Department at for more information, (909) 464-0758.
