Vacant / Abandoned Buildings

Vacant and abandoned buildings and structures not only create a neighborhood eyesore, but are also highly prone to fire and criminal activity. Although it may not be possible to prevent a property from becoming vacant, you can do your part by making sure that any vacant structures, sheds, garages, swimming pools, or surrounding grounds that you own, are secured to prevent unauthorized entry, and kept free of graffiti, weeds, standing or polluted water, and overgrown vegetation. If the vacant structure is severely dilapidated or creating a hazard, it must either be repaired or demolished. Non-maintained swimming pools may be treated by the West Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District for mosquito abatement, and drained by the City or City’s contractor, if required to abate the nuisance.
